2007 Side Case Conversion "how To" easy task and worth the effort

So, I got my sidecase conversion a couple of weeks back, and I have been too busy enjoying having my quad back together to write anything up. I had the motor out, but I can see it being very easy installing it in a running quad! The only prob I had was that I torqued the banjo bolt too much on my head for the oil feed line and broke it :101: I had to wait a week for a new one just to get the bike started, so be careful! Since the kit comes with no directions, and since it can be quite confusing with all the different seals and such, I went to the Yamaha website and downloaded their microfiche pic of the 07 sidecases, and also highlighted all the parts and part numbers and saved that to notepad. That way, as you go, you just check the part number on the pic, and put it where it goes, very easy! One thing I didnt have in the kit that I might have wanted was the bearing for the water pump. I had just put a new one in, and wasnt sure if I would be able to get it out of the old case without damaging it. I did luckily, but some of you might want to have a new one at the ready!

The correct socket for the clutch basket is 30mm....also you need to have a clutch holder to remove the nut..
also, in the instructions it say to remove the water pump cover and the impeller, you cannot remove the impeller until you remove the crankcase side cover....
also, pay close attention to how the seals are installed, especially the ones on the water pump impeller shaft, there are two of them inside....
also, once your remove the impleller, which you hold the backside with a wrench and a socket on the front side, you can pop the seal out on the impeller side with a screwdriver, but to get the other one out, get a socket the size of the seal and hit the socket with a hammer to drive out both the seal and the inside bearing, this works well....
watch the bushings that are in the case, they may stay on the engine case when you pull the side cover....
one last note, not sure how he reused the case gasket, as the 07 gasket is cutout for the oil squirter, when putting on the new gasket, i used some high temp gasket sealer to hold the gasket in place, the first time i put it on I had a oil leak as the bottom part of the gasket is really narrow and can easily not sit between the two piece of metal....
other than that, it takes some time, but overall not too bad...

I wonder if it would be a bad idea to have both versions done. Do you guys think it would drop the oil pressure down too much?
I have the old verison oil mod, is the new conversion kit more effective with the angle of the squirt?

can't help you on the idea of putting the full '07 mod in with the old mod, not sure how that will work, etc...

YUP, that is the only difference. It meets up just fine. Yamaha can be smart sometimes....

I know I'm quite a bit late and I didnt notice if anyone ask this, but has anyone figured out a way to replace just the gear on the oil pump? I havent gotten to see one up close yet so I'm not sure how the gear is held on. Since the only difference is the gear that could save people alot of money if you could just buy a replacement gear.
